I would stay away from PDF.Flow. They claim on the home page PDF.Flow is an open source library but if you dig deeper you find out it really is not. What kind of people/companies do this other than scammers?

PDFSharp is an open source, lightweight library for reading, modifying, and writing PDF documents. It is written in C# and supports the Windows platform. PDFSharp can be used to convert HTML code to a PDF file.

After analyzing the pros and the cons of each library, it can be concluded that IronPDF is the best among all the listed PDF libraries. It has the power to convert very complex HTML pages with lengthy CSS styling to a PDF document. IronPDF is easy to install because it offers three different ways of installation. You don't need to install any third-party package or executable files to use IronPDF, and it is a standalone PDF-component library. It is compatible with all the latest operating systems and .NET frameworks, making it very useful in all platforms. IronPDF uses advanced technologies and is updated regularly to provide improved performance. IronPDF also allows developers to create PDF documents in just a few lines of code. It also provides classes and methods for modifying, reading, and editing PDF files. It can also generate PDF documents from HTML strings.

As always, if you have any technical questions, you can contact support with your valid support subscription or head over to one of our community support pages on Stack Overflow to see if your question has already been answered for our open source AGPL users.

There is a large range of PDF-related software available with many different applications available that can both output to and open files. Many open source software save documents to this format such as LibreOffice and GIMP.

The purpose of this article is to recommend free and open source PDF development libraries. We are not considering PDF editors, PDF viewers, tools that add an OCR layer to PDF files here. This is because these categories are covered by other articles in our Best Free and Open Source series.

The objective of this page is to build a comprehensive list of open source C++ libraries, so that when one needs an implementation of particular functionality, one needn't to waste time searching on web (DuckDuckGo, Google, Bing etc.).

If you know a library that might be useful to others, please add a link to it here. There are no restrictions on what can be included except that the source of the library must be readily available to download.

The original. One of the more well established PDF libraries in C#. Most versions of iTextSharp (now iText as of version 7) are covered by the AGPL. This is quite an 'aggressive' license that cannot be used for commercial purposes unless you also release your entire source code as source available (controversial take, I don't really consider AGPL open source) under the AGPL, or buy a commercial license.

docnet wraps the PDFium C++ library used by Chromium. It provides a C# API for the functionality available in the C++ library. This MIT licensed wrapper wraps the Apache 2.0 licensed PDFium code so is properly open source.

We reviewed a few of the options available to a developer looking to read text from a PDF in C# on .NET Core. There's some difficulty finding proper open-source, rather than commercial or copyleft licensed software to achieve this task.

In the end, our own difficulties with creating a high-quality PDF and scaling production led us to create DocRaptor. We thought we could help other developers from wasting time and energy as we did. That said, many DocRaptor users have tried an open-source tool before switching to DocRaptor. You should review all your potential solutions.

Historically, wkhtmltopdf and PhantomJS were the primary open-source HTML to PDF libraries. Do not use these for PDF generation. They are buggy, lack support for modern CSS, have poor font support, and are a pain to install. Additionally, PhantomJS has been officially abandoned by its maintainer. Stick with the Headless Chrome-based libraries.

I believe you can use RazorPDF. This NuGet package is internally uses ITextSharp an open source PDF convertor library. RazorPDF uses Razor View engine to create iTextXML which is in tern used to produce PDF file. You can get more information about that at below link.

Which C# PDF library is best suited for your .NET project? You can decide, as this article compares a personal opionion of what each product can do and how they do it using the most common functions of each.

iTextSharp has been around for at least 6 years, based on an open source Java codebase called iText, and still has somewhat of a Java flavor. Developers who first learned Java may find this library familiar.

IronPDF is a .NET-first library with an API designed around ease of use in Visual Studio. .NET has been in existence for almost 20 years, continually growing and expanding, and opening up many possibilities, which IronPDF is designed to leverage. It allows us to create and manipulate PDF documents in .NET framework projects. You can download IronPDF as an iTextSharp Alternative.

IronPDF really focuses on developer productivity. The library simplifies many common complex PDF code tasks into convenient C# methods to extract text and images, sign PDFS, edit PDFS with new HTML and more, without the developer needing to study the PDF document standard to understand how to achieve their best result.

This license is often used for highly academic works that are intended to stay academic, and also for open source projects who intend paid usage for software deployed outside of academic environments. The nature of the AGPL license agreement makes the open source iTextSharp license difficult for many commercial use cases, unless a private license can be arranged and legally negotiated with the developers.

IronPDF, on the other hand, is an openly commercial C# PDF library. It is free for development and can always be licensed for commercial deployment. This clear license model does not require developers to learn the ins and outs of GNU / AGPL license models and can instead focus on their projects. Licenses are available for single project use, single developers, agencies and global corporations, and SaaS and OEM redistribution. No legal fees negotiated, just straight forward licensing.

After the installation completes, we need to import native library files to our root project. We can find those files in our source project in the NativeLibrary folder. Inside we will find two folders 32bit and 64bit, so we need to choose the appropriate library for our OS. We are going to choose the files from the 64bit folder:
